ABOUT

Jazz guitarist and upright bassist Craig Hall has been performing throughout Montana, 

occasionally across the US and occasionally in other lands for decades. He runs the weekly jazz program at Plonk Wine in downtown Bozeman, Montana, where he books local, state and national jazz characters into a packed small-club atmosphere each Wednesday night. Lately, at Plonk and elsewhere in Bozeman he has hosted jazz guests including Azar Lawrence, Benito Gonzales, Jack Walrath, Bob Sheppard, Steve Houghton, Camila Meza, Adam and Alex Platt, Bob Bowman, Eden Atwood, Peter Lamb, John Stowell and others.

Besides Plonk, Craig performs commonly in Missoula at Dalyjazz (in recent years withJoey Calderazzo, Grace Kelly, Lee Konitz, Ryan Keberle, Eddie Marshall, Jeni Fleming and others) and at Walkers Bar and Grille in Billings (with Erik Olson, Brad Edwards, Bill Honaker, Jeff Troxel, many others) and at The Cikan House, The Homestead and other Montana jazz venues. Through the years he';s gigged with Eddie Harris, Fathead Newman, Richie Cole and others. He has taught at jazz camps (Stanford Jazz Camp, Madison River Music Festival, Yellowstone Jazz Camp) and has clinics across the country. He has toured extensively with Montana Mandolin Society, Jeni Fleming, Eden Atwood, across the US, Japan and in Australia.

He co-leads the off-and- on group Springhill with Ann Tappan, a group that has recorded three impressive CDs and toured The Czech Republic three times. Craig has played on dozens of CDs, including several as leader, and often has worked for multimedia projects.

He teaches classical guitar fundamentals to two dozen youngsters age five and up, in addition to keeping a roster of mostly adult jazz students.
